Steffenson Carpentry believes that planning for sustainability requires a systematic, integrated approach that brings together environmental, economic and social goals directed towards the following objectives:

1	Reduce dependence upon fossil fuels, extracted underground metals and minerals. (By, wherever possible, promoting the use of solar power, efficient insulating materials and wood-burning heating systems)

2	Reduce dependence on chemicals and other manufactured substances that can accumulate in nature. (By eliminating, as far as possible, the use of synthetic materials harmful to the ecology)

3	Reduce dependence on activities that harm life-sustaining ecosystems. (by using, wherever possible, sustainable harvested lumber)
